The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication of Aliah University was established in 2013. JMC Department currently offers one PG level course, Masters in Journalism and Mass Communication (MJMC).
The course is Journalism and Mass Communication is one of the very few MA degree programmes offered in West Bengal, where most universities and colleges just offer a diploma course. This ensures that prospective students have a wider array of choices, both in terms of professional placements in media houses, newspaper organisations, to the corporate sector as well as a choice for academic advancement to pursue higher research, possible only after an M A degree.
While there is a strong demand for this courses both nationally and internationally, we at Aliah groom our students to meet their needs at the work place and also teach communicative/language skills in interpersonal relations. The course gives basic expertise in problem solving and decision making. Therefore, the course is not just 'theory oriented' but is also 'industry friendly'.
The department is steadfastly working towards comprehensive and holistic syllabi, that include audio-visual literacy where the students do not just become passive consumers but also active producers of media content.
The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication is centrally located at our Park Circus campus, in the heart of the city and has a vision to emerge as a state of the art professional as well as academic centre for excellence, with latest media studios in audio-visual production, a hugely stocked library, efficient academicians and some of the most promising students.
