About the department

The Department of Management/Business Administration (known as the Department of Business Studies) started its journey in 2008 in association with a private institute. It was established with a vision of creation of ever-expanding opportunities for higher education and research in emerging areas for the capacity-building and empowerment through all-round development of the future citizens, particularly the socially and educationally backward classes belonging to the Minorities. The Department started running its courses independently since 2014.  It offers five years integrated Masters in Business Management and Doctoral programme in Management. In 2016, the Department has been renamed as the Department of Management & Business Administration. Presently the Department has sixteen full time faculty members.

Within this short period of time, the Department of Management & Business Administration has made its mark in the field of management education.

The Department is a vibrant one and keeps busy throughout the year with its full-time courses and various programmes. In 2016-17, the Department organized the first

  • 7-Day Faculty Development Programme on ‘Research Methodology’ (12 – 20 July 2016)
  • International Conference on Management & Business Practices (ICMBP - 2017) on Millennium Management Paradigm and Contemporary Business Practices (January 11-12, 2017)

Students are the key stakeholders of the Department. Therefore, the focus of the Department is on their overall development.  A few of the student-centric programmes organized in 2016-17 were:

  • One-Day State Level Seminar “Recent Trends in Capital Markets and Financial Innovations” for the students  in collaboration with University of Calcutta-Calcutta Stock Exchange Centre of Excellence in Financial Markets (5 September 2016)
  • Plant visit to Pepsico India (22 October, 2016)

The students also participated in a

  • Seminar on ‘Commerce Education and Beyond – The Professional Edge’ organized by The Institute of Cost Accountants of India in association with Department of Commerce, University of Calcutta on August 27, 2016 at the Calcutta University’s Centenary Hall. Twenty five students from 3rd semester and 5th semester participated in it along with a faculty coordinator.
