ACADEMIC REGULATIONS FOR THE DEGREE OF BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN NURSING
- Eligibility Criteria for Admission:
- The candidates must qualify in Aliah University Entrance Examination (AUAT) & have minimum 17 years & maximum 27 years of age on the 31" December of the year of admission.
- The minimum educational requirements shall be a pass in 10+2 Higher Secondary or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry. Biology. English (PCBE).
- Only female candidates who have passed HS or equivalent examination with PCBE and obtained pass marks in each subject (theory and practical separately) are eligible for appearing in the Aliah University admission test. Percentage of marks to be eligible will be not less than INC criteria (45% in PCB for general category).
- A candidate belonging to SC/ST or other backward classes, the marks obtained in PCB taken together in qualifying examination be 40%.
- For disabled candidates, 3% Disability reservation to be considered with a disability of locomotor to the tune of 40% to 50% of the lower extremity & other eligibility criteria with regard to age & qualification will be same as prescribed for nursing program according to INC.
- Candidates must be permanent resident of West Bengal for admission.
- All eligible merit listed candidates have to go though the counseling process.
- Statutory reservation:
Statutory reservation of seats, as will be decided by the Government of West Bengal from time to time, will be strictly observed.
- Admission & Enrolment of Students:
- Admission of candidates shall be permitted on condition of fulfillment of eligibility criteria as stated in the clause 1 of this regulation
- Admission to the University shall be permitted in accordance to the provisions provided by the Statute of this University.
- A candidate shall be considered as enrolled after she is admitted and has paid all the prescribed fees within the given time.
- A candidate once enrolled shall be considered a student of the nursing department until her name is struck off by the competent authority for continuous absence from classes without information for more than one month and/or for non-payment of fees, for breach of discipline and for any other extra-ordinary reason necessitating such action.
- For long absence without any valid reason, in spite of being notified by registered post with acknowledgement (three times:1st letter after 1month of absence, next 2 consecutive letters in the interval of 2wks respectively ) by the Nursing Department, will be considered as discontinuation of the course if the candidate does not respond within 15 days of receiving the last letter. No candidate is allowed to continue the course in the same year until she produces any valid/genuine/medical reason to continue the course.
- A candidate, at all times, shall maintain discipline of the college and shall not indulge in any activity or behavior unbecoming of a student.
- Every candidate will undergo a certified period of study extending over academic years divided by four annual examinations.
- Scheme of Examinations:
The examination shall consist of four parts: part I, part II, Part III, Part IV.
All the parts leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science in Nursing will be held once a year followed by a supplementary examination to be held at least 6 weeks after the publication of results will be suggested by the board of studies but determined and notified by the university.
An enrolled candidate of the University from a recognized college, prosecuting the courses of study of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing, shall have to maintain at least 80% attendance in theory and clinical experience separately during that particular year of study to appear in that particular part of the Examination. However, 100% of attendance for practical is mandatory before the award of degree.
- Non-appearance in any part/subject of the examinations shall be considered as failure and shall be counted as one chance.
- Candidates who have appeared or who is deemed to appear in all the subjects of Part I, II and III Examination may proceed to take regular course of study in the major and subsidiary subjects of the B.Sc. Nursing course and may be admitted to the subsequent years by giving a declaration to the HOD Nursing.
- If a candidate fails to clear supplementary exam. for only one subject she can sit for next final university examination along with the failed subject.
- Candidates who have failed in any subject of part IV examination may appear in the supplementary / next regular examination being the outsider.
- A candidate shall have to clear all the previous examinations before appearing for final year examination.
- If a candidate fails in either theory or practical paper of any subject then she has to reappear for both theory & practical exam. of that particular subject.
- To complete four years B.Sc. Nursing course a candidate will not exceed a period of maximum eight years.
- Selection of Examiners:
Each major theory and practical papers of B.Sc. Nursing examination shall have to be examined by two examiners, e.g, internal examiner from the faculty and one external examiner from outside. External examiner preferably from an institution or another University or retired teacher less than 70 yrs who fulfils the INC criteria.
- All practical examinations must be held in the clinical field of the concerned discipline.
- The number of candidates for practical examination should not exceed 20 per day.
- Maximum of 1 grace mark for each subject is permitted and grace marks should not exceed 5 mark for one academic year in theory paper only.
- An examiner for B.Sc.(N) program should be a lecturer/Assistant Professor or above in a college of nursing with M.Sc.(N) in concerned subject and minimum of 3 years of teaching experience in the collegiate program. To be an examiner for nursing foundations course faculty having M.Sc. (N) with any specialty shall be considered.
- Selection of Moderators:
One moderator in each subject, suggested by the board of studies will moderate the questions set by the paper setters for finalizing the questions.
- Internal assessment:
- There shall be an internal assessment for each subject as shown in the scheme of examination of the INC.
- The marks of the internal assessment should be ready at least 6 weeks before the university examination.
- Every candidate has to obtain pass marks in internal assessment separately in theory & practical, otherwise the student should not be sent to University examination.
- The average internal marks of the total students should not be more than 75% i.e. if 60 students are admitted in a course the average score of the 60 students shall not exceed 75% of total internal marks.
8. Standard of Passing:
- In order to pass, a candidate will have to obtain at least 50% marks in major subjects separately in theoretical and practical examination whereas to pass in any subsidiary subject a candidate must obtain at least 40% of marks in that subject.
- A candidate has to pass in internal and external examination separately in each of the paper.
[Classification of results: It will be according to the INC rules, are as follows:
• Pass: obtained 50% marks in each of the theory paper and practical paper separately.
• Second class: obtained 51-59% marks in each of the theory paper and practical paper separately.
• First class: obtained 60-74% marks in each of the theory paper and practical paper separately.
• Distinction: obtained75% and above marks in each of the theory paper and practical paper
separately.
• For declaring the rank aggregate of 4 years marks to be considered]
9. Award of Degree:
- After passing in all the parts of the examination, a candidate will be awarded B.Sc in Nursing degree under the seal of the University and signed by the Vice Chancellor.
10. Publication of Results:
The University will publish list of successful candidates within approximately two months of the completion of the examination provided that all examiners submit the results in proper time.
