Nanobiotechnology is an interdisciplinary research domain that deals with designing, synthesis, and application of particles of sizes ranging between 1-500 nanometres in diameter. Nanoparticles and nanocomposites have wide range of applications in biomedical field that ranges between diagnosis, imaging and therapy. We at NAP LAB, are trying to address the limited bioavailability of the various therapeutic molecules by enhancing the cellular uptake of drug-loaded nanoparticles by surface functionalization of the same. Biopolymers from natural sources are being explored for potential synthesis of biodegradable and biocompatible nanoparticles that has significant drug payload.

Applied phytochemistry is a subject that deals with the extraction, isolation, identification, and application of wide range of compounds from various plant sources. Among the most commonly known phytochemicals is Quinine, an important alkaloid isolated form the bark of cinchona tree, is an important anti-malarial compound. Similarly, there exists a huge trove of potential phytochemicals in diverse plant sources that is influenced by geographical, climatic and seasonal variations. At NAP lab, we try understand the molecular action of mechanism of these phytochemicals with therapeutic potential against various diseases, especially diabetes and cancer. This domain of research contributes to the scientific foundation of various traditional folk medicine, that otherwise lacks modern scientific validation.

Researchers at NAP Lab are expected to broaden their technical skills with techniques such as chromatography, spectroscopy, cell culture handling, molecular biology techniques, and computational biology.
