Clinical and Applied Genomics (CAG) Lab
My research groups focus has been exploring viral genomics and proteomics through various tools. First, the analysis of repeat sequences or microsatellites which are present as a unique signature in each genome. They are distributed ubiquitously across coding and non coding regions and exploring their impact on genome function, regulation, evolution and host divergence. Secondly, the existence of codon usage bias in viruses with refenrece to known and probabale hosts in order to determine the host dependent or selection driven evolution. Thirdly, we also analyze the emerging viruses like SARS-CoV-2 and Monkeypox Virus through pholo-geo-network, haplogroup studies and deciphering clinical correlations with sequence alterations at the protein level. Lastly, our group is also trying to predict and establish the structure function relationship of incompletely annotated viral genomes.
Further, we are also exploring the interplay of various genetic factors related to arsenic genotoxicity and hemoglobinopathies in India.
